We welcomed colleagues from across the city on Friday 19th June for our Leaders’ Breakfast Meeting at the CATCH.

The morning brought together leaders from education, business, health and community sectors, providing opportunities to strengthen existing relationships, develop new connections and continue the collaborative work that makes Leeds such an ambitious city.

Thank you to o Leeds College of Building for sponsoring the event. As the UK’s only specialist further education college dedicated solely to construction and the built environment, Leeds College of Building is committed to developing the skilled workforce needed to support the sector’s continued growth. The college plays an important role in supporting both the city’s development and the wider regional economy.

Our first speakers of the morning were Steph Taylor, Chief Executive of Leeds Community Foundation, and Niall Bourke, Associate Director and Office Leader at Arup. Through a joint presentation, Steph and Niall shared insights into their collaborative work and highlighted the power of partnership in addressing some of the city’s challenges.

Drawing on their experience across the voluntary, community and private sectors, they explored how organisations can work together to create lasting impact and opportunity for communities across Leeds.

We were then pleased to welcome Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire. Tracy delivered an inspiring and passionate address outlining her vision for the region’s future, with a hope for more devolution to allow our city and West Yorkshire to thrive. She spoke about the importance of creating opportunities for all, investing in communities, developing skills and employment pathways, in order to tackle the rising issue of young people who are NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training).

We would like to thank all three speakers for their time. Their contributions generated thoughtful discussion and provided much to reflect upon as we continue our collective work to improve outcomes for young people and our communities.

Recordings of both talks are now available on our Members’ Zone (available to colleagues from our Members).

Thank you also to the team at CATCH for hosting us, and especially to the volunteers who supported throughout the morning. From welcoming guests on arrival with a couple of their lLamas to assisting with the smooth running of the event, they helped to ensure the morning was a success.

We look forward to our next event which takes place on Friday 9th October (venue TBC).
