We welcomed colleagues from across Leeds on Friday 9th October for our latest Leaders’ Breakfast, held at AMT Headingley Stadium.

The morning brought together leaders from education, business, health and community sectors, providing an opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and develop new connections to create better outcomes for young people and communities across the city.

Thank you to Morley Glass & Glazing for sponsoring the event and supporting the Leeds Learning Alliance’s work to bring leaders together from across sectors.

We welcomed as our guest speakers Dr Temitope Ademosu, Director of Communities, Environment, Housing and Health at Leeds City Council, and Nick Barley, Director of the National Poetry Centre.

| L to R: Simon Flowers OBE, Dr Temitope Ademosu, Nick Barley, Paul Brennan

Temitope leads a wide-ranging portfolio of services that shape everyday life across Leeds, such as housing, community hubs, environmental services, public health and community safety. Her contribution highlighted the breadth of work involved in building strong, healthy and thriving communities, and the importance of bringing services and partners together to address the challenges facing residents across the city. Her own story began with the theme of voice, language and communication – a thread which carried through the morning with Nick Barley.

Nick Barley is the Director of the National Poetry Centre, a new Leeds-based organisation founded by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, building a world-class cultural facility celebrating poets and poetry in all its forms.

Nick shared his own story of his relationship with poetry and how poetry can be a source of inspiration and expression. With the forthcoming opening of the National Poetry Centre itself, and plans for the British Library North, Leeds is set up to become a nationally recognised city of words for generations to come.

If you’d like to revisit the day’s talks, you can find recordings of them – along with previous sessions – in the Members’ Zone. Register for a login or email [email protected] for further information.

Both speakers offered valuable perspectives on the role that leadership, collaboration and shared responsibility play in shaping opportunities and improving outcomes for people and places across Leeds.

We would like to thank Nick and Temitope for giving their time to share their experiences, and all who joined us for the morning’s discussions. Thank you also to Headingley Stadium and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation for hosting us.

The Leeds Learning Alliance Leaders’ Breakfast Meetings continue to provide a valuable space for leaders from different sectors to connect, exchange ideas and strengthen the partnerships that support our city’s young people and communities.

We are already looking forward to our next event, held at Leeds Beckett University on Friday 4th December, sponsored by Boost Talent LTD and Leeds Beckett University.
